UPDATE 9/08/2014
PRESEASON OPENS FRIDAY WITH "A NIGHT OF BAD FIRST IMPRESSIONS"
Dubuque hosts Waterloo for a promotional night that will embrace the usual early season hiccups

DUBUQUE, IA—On the ice, the Dubuque Fighting Saints are ready to make a strong first impression as they open the preseason Friday night versus Waterloo. Off the ice, the Fighting Saints are embracing the hiccups that come with opening the doors for the first time all season. Knowing that, Friday evening’s game has been titled, “A Night of Bad First Impressions,” as the Fighting Saints strive to bring the best bad first impressions they can. The Fighting Saints battle the Black Hawks at 7:35 p.m. for a theme night turned upside down.

The new-look Fighting Saints will take the ice against their old rival Waterloo as they play together for the first time in 2014-2015. The club’s training camp features 31 players vying for 23 roster spots, with 10 players on the roster returning from the 2013-2014 season.

In the arena on Friday, the Fighting Saints staff will be doing things a little bit different. A usual promotional night features a fun nightly theme with all promotional aspects designed to leave a great impression with the fans. Since the first game of the season will already likely include hiccups and errors, the Fighting Saints staff has chosen to highlight them on “A Night of Bad First Impressions.”

Everyone has heard horror stories of music playing at the wrong time, the goal horn going off inadvertently, Slingshot Bowling contestants flung awry, the t-shirt gun failing to fire, ushers knowing less about the arena than fans, and words misspelled on the scoreboard. The Fighting Saints can promise that Friday’s game will feature this, and more, as part of the bad first impressions the night will bring.

"As an organization, we're always striving for perfection,” said Fighting Saints president Dan Lehv. “By developing a promotion designed to expose and embrace the imperfections, we're guaranteed to have a perfect night no matter what happens."

Even the Fighting Saints front office staff will get in on the fun. This group is usually dressed to the nines on game day, but on “A Night of Bad First Impressions” they’ll be wearing a hodge-podge of assorted fashion disasters, including tuxedo t-shirts.

One feature that will not differ from a normal Fighting Saints game is the top-notch customer service the staff offers. Fans will still be greeted with a smile, and thanked as they leave, with the request they return another time to see just how much better an actual game night presentation is when the Fighting Saints staff is striving for the best rather than embracing the hiccups.

Tickets to Friday’s preseason game are included in Full Season Ticket Holders packages for the 2014-2015 campaign. This is the final week for fans to sign up for a Full Season Ticket. Full Season Tickets remain the best way for fans to enjoy the lowest ticket price and many added benefits while enjoying all 34 home games from their favorite seats. For more information on Season Tickets and to order tickets for Friday’s game, fans should call the Fighting Saints at 563.583.6880 or visit DubuqueFightingSaints.com.

About the Dubuque Fighting Saints

The Fighting Saints returned to USHL play in the brand new Mystique Community Ice Center during the 2010-11 Season, winning the Clark Cup in their first year back in the USHL. The Fighting Saints continued their success with a historic season in 2012-13, finishing with a franchise best 45‐11‐8 record. The original Fighting Saints competed in the USHL for 21 seasons (1980‐2001). The Club won the Clark Cup as playoff champions on three occasions (1981, 1983, 1985) under head coach Jack Barzee.
